19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from that period of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has won twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued four initial chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
